I have practiced Web Design for over a decade – designing everything from entire websites to graphic elements and animated assets for webpages. I’ve found that my web design skillset is constantly evolving with the introduction of new technologies and the ever-changing ways in which users interact with web content. My early work was mainly based on utilising software such as Adobe Dreamweaver which gave me a great insight into the workings and make-up of web pages. As technology and viewing behaviours have evolved, I have found that my use of Content Management Systems (CMS) has greatly increased. My preferred creative tools in this field are CMS such as Wagtail, Joomla and WordPress. This enables me to create ‘future proof’, optimised, responsive websites and assets which are easily updatable to suite the clients’ needs.

SCOTTISH SHALE WEBSITE

My most recent web design work was undertaking a 2 year project with the Museum of the Scottish Shale Oil Industry. I was a key contributor in this project and worked closely with the director, marketing team, curatorial staff and creative agency partners to produce this website. A large amount of content from multiple sources needed to be transferred and combined to form various sections and pages within the new website. I created and designed many sections and page layouts within this new website and played a key role with copywriting, rebranding and producing high quality content for this new 14,000+ page learning resource. This substantial website has interactive and immersive assets which I’ve been responsible for designing and hosting. It also has an ever expanding digital archive. I feel that the work I undertook on this project has contributed to the creation of a learning resource which will be so beneficial for the mining communities of central Scotland for years to come.
